It's not even syrup!

This morning we had wonderful buttermilk pancakes (thanks to the old school Betty Crocker) and sausage from our local butcher, Silvana Meats.
I grabbed the syrup and I've never thought twice about it but decided to look at the ingredients on the back. I always assumed it would say "Maple Syrup". I'm going to feel extremely non-smart if everyone else already knew that your Aunt Jemima syrup doesn't say "Maple Syrup". It actually says: High Fructose corn syrup, water, cellulose gum, salt, natural and artificial flavors, caramel color, sorbic acid and sodium benzoate (preservatives), sodium hexametaphosphate. Now I know why it's only about $3.00/bottle!
I bet if I pick up the glass bottle on the top shelf that says "Maple Syrup" across the front it would probably say "Maple Syrup" on the back too. It may cost $10-15/bottle but it would be well worth the money. A bottle lasts a long time anyways.....I've taught my son that he doesn't need to smother his pancakes in it.
With the summer almost here I start making fresh fruit compote as a topping and we can alternate with the syrup.
My next shopping trip will include a bottle of REAL SYRUP!!
